Puyallup Calf Roping 2026: Full Field, Playoff Series Cut Line and the Top-15 Bubble

With the Puyallup list set, 24 tie-down ropers have a place in the $75,000 Washington State Fair Playoff Series rodeo Sept. 10-13—the top 23 in Playoff Series points plus NFR Open runner-up Shad Mayfield through the exemption—but the two names that matter most for the world standings might be the pair that isn’t on the list at all, Brushton Minton and Quade Hiatt, who sit 10th and 13th in the world and will spend the second week of September watching.

Puyallup is the first of the two richest rodeos left on the ProRodeo calendar, and it draws its field off Playoff Series points, not world-standings money—a separate ledger that rewards how a calf roper has placed at Playoff Series rodeos all year.

The NFR Open Back Door

The 24th spot didn’t fall to the 24th man in points. It went to Shad Mayfield, who sits 31st in the Playoff Series race but earned an exemption as the NFR Open runner-up. The winner ahead of him, Haven Meged, had already locked his place in the field through points, so the exemption rolled down to Mayfield.

For Quade Hiatt, that’s the cruel math of the Playoff Series. He’s 13th in the world with $111,504.40 won but he finished 24th in Playoff Series points and Mayfield’s exemption put the door the rest of the way shut. Hiatt won’t get a crack at Puyallup’s purse.

Checking Back In on the Bubble

The gaps at the top-15 cut line are as thin as they’ve been all year. Just $2,202.08 separates 15th from 16th, and $2,612.54 covers 14th from 15th. Here’s what Puyallup does to that fight: 13 of the current top 15 are in the field and can pad their leads, while the two who aren’t—Brushton Minton, 10th in the world at $119,853.65, and Hiatt, 13th at $111,504.40—can only hold what they’ve got.

Behind them, nine ropers currently outside the top 15 are entered at Puyallup with a shot to climb in. Hunter Herrin is the closest, 18th in the world and $3,865.21 back of Tyler Calhoun’s 15th-place line, with a $75,000 rodeo standing between him and a top-15 spot. Dylan Hancock (19th), Mayfield (20th), Cole Clemons (21st), Bo Pickett (22nd), Cory Solomon (23rd), Cash Hooper (24th), Brodey Clemons (25th) and Chase Webster (26th) round out the group that can make up ground in Puyallup that Minton and Hiatt cannot.

The ones the bubble should worry about are the men caught in the worst of both worlds: Beau Cooper (16th, $2,202.08 out of the top 15) and Macon Murphy (17th) are close enough to the cut line to feel it, but neither made the Puyallup cut. They watch the nine chasers behind them get a swing at the money while they wait on what’s left.

Puyallup is only the opening act. The Cinch Playoff Series finale, the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, runs Sept. 25-27 for a $166,667 purse—together with Puyallup, that’s $241,667 on the table before the regular season closes Sept. 30.
