2026 NFR Calf Roping Payout: Go-Rounds Now Pay Eight Places

The 15 best tie-down ropers in the world will chase a bigger slice of the pie when the 2026 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo opens Dec. 3 in Las Vegas, as the National Finals Rodeo Committee announced that each of the 10 go-rounds will now pay eight places instead of six, with $33,893.25 going to every round winner and $1,633,841.91 in competition money up for grabs in calf roping alone.

The change puts a check in the pocket of the seventh and eighth-place ropers in every round, spots that paid nothing in the past.

“The NFR will pay a record $14,270,736 to contestants this year and now, at the contestants urging, the rounds and average will pay out eight places,” PRCA CEO Tom Glause said. “This will only increase the excitement at PRORODEO’s marquee event as contestants chase coveted gold buckles.”

2026 NFR Calf Roping Go-Round Payout

Each of the 10 full go-rounds pays a total of $127,899.08 in the calf roping:

A tie-down roper who places eighth in all 10 rounds would pocket $31,974.70 in round money alone under the new structure. A cowboy who sweeps all 10 go-rounds would bank $338,932.50 before the average is ever paid.

2025 vs. 2026 NFR Calf Roping Round Payout

Paying two more holes changes how the money is split. Each round pays $9,615.37 more in 2026 than it did in 2025 ($127,899.08, up from $118,283.71), but a round win is worth $2,774.70 less than the $36,667.95 it paid at the 2025 NFR.

The top three spots each pay less than they did a year ago, while fourth through eighth all pay more. Sixth place alone jumps $2,399.25 a night. Over 10 rounds, a cowboy who wins every go-round would earn $338,932.50 in round money, $27,747 less than the $366,679.50 the same sweep would have paid in 2025. Across the full Finals, the tie-down roping pays $96,153.70 more in round money than it did in 2025.

The aggregate payoff, awarded to the top finishers on 10 head in Las Vegas, is unchanged from 2025 and totals $354,851.11:

Record $14,270,736 Purse at the Wrangler NFR

The total prize money for the 2026 NFR is set at a record $14,270,736. That includes $1.2 million in guaranteed money for NFR qualifiers and $13,070,736 in competition prize money across all seven events.

In calf roping, the math breaks down to $1,278,990.80 in go-round money plus the $354,851.11 average, for $1,633,841.91 in competition payout, before the $150,000 in guaranteed qualifier money ($10,000 per qualifier) for the 15-man field.

2026 NFR Calf Roping FAQs

The 2026 Wrangler NFR runs Thursday, Dec. 3 through Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The top 15 contestants in each of the seven events qualify to compete for a share of the purse and the PRCA world championships.

In 2025, the Wrangler NFR drew a total attendance of 175,846 over 10 rounds at the Thomas & Mack, and the rodeo has sold out 389 consecutive performances in Las Vegas.
