CNFR 2026: Calf Roping Draw, Format and More

Forty-four of college rodeo’s best calf ropers are headed to the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming, for the Collegiate National Finals Rodeo (CNFR), June 14–20, with a collegiate national tie-down roping title and the average on the line.

The CNFR is the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s season-ending championship. The calf ropers qualified out of the NIRA’s 11 regions, with the top three in each region’s standings qualifying for the CNFR. Each calf roper in this years field will run three calves in Casper before the field narrows for Saturday’s short go. The average decides the national champion.

Calf roping action kicks off in Monday-morning slack on June 15 (Round 1), with Round 2 in Tuesday-morning slack on June 16. Round 3 is split across the four nightly performances, Tuesday through Friday at 7 p.m., with 11 calf ropers competing each night. The short round kicks off Saturday, June 20, at 7 p.m.

ProRodeo Rookies in the Field

Winning a college title and a Resistol rookie title in the same year is a well-worn path. Last year, Tyler Calhoun left Casper with the 2025 CNFR Tie-Down Roping Championship and kept right on rolling to the Resistol Rookie of the Year title. Haven Meged one-upped everybody in 2019, sweeping the rookie title, the CNFR title and the world championship in a single season, and Ty Harris pulled off the CNFR-and-rookie double in 2018. Five of this year’s CNFR calf ropers have the chance to keep that streak alive: Brodey Clemons (Tarleton State University), Sam Lewis (Angelo State University), Dalton Porch (Tarleton State University), Jacob Walters (Eastern New Mexico University) and Tate Talkington (University of Wyoming).
