Cheyanne McCartney won both open breakaway divisions at both 2026 Old West Futurities stops, but she isn’t on Sunday’s entry list, so someone else will take the season’s last two open titles Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Old West World Championships at the Amarillo Tri-State Fairgrounds in Amarillo, Texas.
The 6-&-Under Futurity and 4-&-Under Pre-Futurity Breakaway each run two go-rounds and a finals Sunday, starting at 8 a.m. Central, ahead of the Futurity Heading. Old West breakaway is judged and timed: each run’s time converts to points, two judges’ scores are added, and the scores stack across all three rounds. The top 12 and ties come back for the finals, and the Intermediate and 19 & Under side classes pay off the same runs.
McCartney won the Gamble at Guthrie in April on two horses—Evereything, “Stevo,” in the Futurity with a 695.49 on three head, and Dont Quote Me, “Muffin,” in the Pre-Futurity with a 683.85. In June at Heber City, Utah, she won the 6-&-Under on Shane Hanchey’s Hez Talkin Smack with a 676.58 and the 4-&-Under on Thiccthirty with a 674.59.
