Jordi Edens-Mitchell and Josie Conner Split Governor’s Cup Round 1 as Jill Tanner Ropes Into the Top 15

Rylee George was 1.7 to win the second round of breakaway roping at the Cinch Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Saturday night and banked $12,533, one night after a no-time in Round 1.
Haiden Thompson was 1.8 for second and $9,400, Hali Williams was 1.9 for third and $6,267, and Jordi Edens-Mitchell took the last check at 2.0 for $3,133. Danielle Lowman and Bradi Good were each 2.1, Martha Angelone was 2.4 and Jackie Crawford was 3.2.
Edens-Mitchell’s 3.7 on two head leads the eight cowgirls into Sunday’s semifinal, a tenth ahead of Williams at 3.8. Lowman (4.4), Good (4.6), Angelone (4.9), Crawford (6.2) and Jill Tanner (14.2) are also through. George and Josie Conner tied for the last spot at 1.7 on one head, and Conner won the tiebreaker. Conner was 1.7 in the first round and did not get a time Saturday.
George, Thompson, Jordan Hollabaugh and Cheyanne McCartney did not advance. The semifinal starts from scratch. The four who go out there get $4,500 each, and the four who advance rope in the short round, where first is worth $34,000 and fourth $9,000.

In Friday’s first round, Edens-Mitchell and Conner split the win at 1.7 for $10,967 each, Williams was 1.9 for $6,267 and Tanner was 2.1 for $3,133.
George’s check moved her back past Conner to No. 3 in BRJ’s unofficial world standings at $159,036. Thompson’s moved her from No. 9 to No. 8 at $124,232, past Lowman. Williams has won $12,534 in Sioux Falls and is $4,465 behind McCartney for No. 1, $189,591 to $194,056. Edens-Mitchell holds No. 5 at $143,784.
Round 2 didn’t move the line. Tanner is still No. 15 at $91,555, with Good $1,928 back at No. 16 and Angelone $5,453 back at No. 18. All three rope in Sunday’s semifinal, along with Crawford at No. 21.
Every semifinalist banks at least $4,500. That puts Tanner at $96,055, $462 short of Jenna Dallyn at No. 14, and Good at $94,127. If Good makes the short round and Tanner doesn’t, Good’s $9,000 minimum there takes her to $98,627, past Tanner.
Angelone needs the short round. Fourth ($9,000) gets her to $95,102, which passes Good if Good goes out in the semifinal but leaves her behind Tanner. Third ($17,000) gets her to $103,102. For Crawford, third would reach $94,954, still short of Tanner’s $96,055 floor, and a win ($34,000) would take her to $111,954.
Beau Peterson (No. 17), Sawyer Gilbert (No. 19) and Maddy Jacobs (No. 20) aren’t in the Sioux Falls field, and neither are Aspen Miller (No. 13) or Dallyn. The semifinal is Sunday at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
