The Super Slide delivers exactly what its name promises: the biggest stops in reining, stripped down to a single high-stakes run. On July 24 in Waco, Texas, that formula produced a nail-biter. Mirko Midili and Luk Skywalker (Maytheforcebewhizyou x RS Athena Jac), a 2020 stallion owned by Janice Laney and Thiago Boechat, laid down a 38½ that stood until Mirjam Stillo and Hot Chics Love Me (Yellow Jersey x Hot Chic With A Gun) matched it, forcing a runoff for the title.
Sent back in for a second slide, Midili and his stallion came out firing, sealing the win and the $16,000 top prize. Stillo, a past Super Slide champion herself, banked $6,000 for the runner-up finish.
The format is simple by design. Each horse gets one trip into the arena and one sliding stop, no back-up included. Four judges score every run independently on a 0 to 10 scale, in half-point increments, weighing approach, form and style, degree of difficulty, finesse and willingness, and physicality. All four scores count toward the total, out of a possible 40.
