Tres Movidas
Tres Movidas is a 2012 sorrel mare by Tres Seis out of Sheza Blazin Move, by Blazin Jetolena. Hallie has ridden her since the mare was 3, and the mare made the Old Fort Days Futurity and Derby finals three years running.
She won the Greeley Stampede in 2019. In January 2020 the Hanssens found out she was in foal after a 2019 embryo flush, and they let her carry it. About six months after she foaled, on Nov. 14, 2020, she and Hallie won the inaugural Women’s Rodeo World Championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for $60,000.
Lee made a point of crediting Tom Jacobs, who owned the mare when he called Hallie years ago and asked her to ride.
“None of this would’ve been possible without Tom,” Lee said. “We all stand on someone else’s shoulders in this business, and so I want to give credit where credit’s due, and a lot of it goes to Tom.”
South Dakota colt starter Coleman Swanson started Adioss, and he climbed on this colt bareback in his stall for the colt’s first ride. Before the sale, he put the dam in plain terms.
“A lot of power. One of the greatest Tres Seis mares ever,” Swanson said.
Adioss is a 2022 sorrel stallion by The Goodbye Lane out of Tres Movidas. The Hanssens own him, and he stands at Red River Equine in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
“Adioss is one of my favorite colts I’ve ever got to start of Lee and Hallie’s. And this colt is so similar to him in his demeanor and his attitude,” Swanson said. “I would love to get to start this colt, whoever buys him.”
He got his wish.
The buyers
The Lincolns run a commercial cattle ranch in southeast Arizona and have two kids who rodeo. Kyle ropes and already has horses in the rope horse futurities. Stacie runs barrels and has been coming to the Pink Buckle since the beginning. They had talked for years about buying a stallion to stand, and what sold Kyle on this one was what the colt did while the sale barn went on around him.
“One of the things that stood out to me when we walked back to the stall, all the commotion that was going around, this horse was laying down and almost just resting and not letting what was going on bother him,” Kyle Lincoln said. “It’s a lot for a young horse to come to one of these sales.”
Stacie did not know they had bought him until it was over.
“To be honest, he was in back and I didn’t know we had purchased the horse or that we were the winning bid,” she said. “When I could see him peeking around the corner after and everybody’s shaking his hand, I was like, ‘Well, I think we just got a horse.’”
The plan
The plan is mapped out. Swanson starts the colt this winter, about 45 minutes from the Lincolns’ place in Weatherford, Texas. Then he goes to Tate Kirchenschlager, who rides the Lincolns’ rope horse futurity horses, to be made into a head horse as a 3-year-old. He comes back to the barrels at 4, runs the barrel futurities at 5 and goes to the rope horse futurities at 6. He will stand at Solo Select in Gainesville, Texas, but not right away.
“We’re going to get him broke and get him going in the right direction before we start breeding mares with him,” Kyle said. “But in the end, that’s what the end goal is, is to take those genetics and let other people enjoy the genetics that horse has to offer.”
What he wants people to see is a horse that fits both ends of the barn.
“I want people to see a diverse horse that you can put that high-level rider on that can go win at the highest level, but then also have a mindset that you can put somebody’s grandkid on, and that horse is going to take care of him, whether you’re running barrels on him or roping on him,” Kyle said.
People have asked the Hanssens to put Adioss in rope horse incentives, and Lee said that has never been their lane. They like barrel horses, and they are happy to leave the rope horse side to the Lincolns.
“I told them we’re not competing against this horse,” Lee said. “We’re going to cheer him on, and I’m excited to see what they make of him.”
