Ropers Take Home $545,940 at WSTR Title Fights Sweetwater Qualifier

THE HEARTLAND

The #9.5 Heartland Qualifier was the richest roping of the weekend, paying $84,800. Shawn Felton of Dublin and Brad Grable of Stanton won it with 37.23 seconds on four head, earning $22,500 — the largest check of the weekend.

HIGH MONEY WINNERS

Brian Groves of Granbury was the high-money roper of the weekend with $14,305, finishing second in both the #10.5 and the #9.5 Heartland. Brandon Carrell of Stephenville was next with $12,585, and Blu Bryant of Cleburne earned $12,420. Eight of the top 10 money winners cleared $10,000 for the week.

FASTEST AVERAGE

Kyler Kanady of Breckenridge and Jeryn Ellerd of Levelland posted the fastest average of the weekend, 26.93 on four, to win the #14.5 and $13,030. They opened with a 7.55, came back with a 6.89 and a 7.00, then closed the short round in 5.49 — the fastest run of any average winner all weekend.

LORRAINE MORENO

Lorraine Moreno of Mathis, one of the top female heelers in the business, heeled for Blu Bryant to win the #10.5, worth $19,320 — the biggest average check of the week outside the Heartland. The pair was steady from the first steer: 8.52, 8.62, 9.93 and 9.02 for 36.09 on four, more than half a second faster than the field. Moreno’s half of the check, $9,660, put her in the top 10 money winners for the weekend.
