One Address for Western Sports: EQN Sports Is Live

Western sports has never had a coverage problem. It has had a scattering problem. The results are on one site, the standings on another, the entry deadline in a Facebook post, the interview on a podcast feed nobody remembers subscribing to, and the replay behind a login you set up two seasons ago and haven't thought about since. Every piece exists. Finding all of them in one sitting has been the work.

EQN Sports is the answer to that, and it's live now at eqnsports.com, presented by Holiday Auto Group. The site is organized around the four things people actually come to do — Watch, Read, Compete and Listen — rather than around the org chart of the company that publishes it. Read pulls the newest work from every outlet in the network in one feed: The Team Roping Journal, The Breakaway Roping Journal, BarrelRacing.com, CalfRoping.com and the Performance Report. Watch brings the Roping.com and Ride TV libraries together with live event coverage, replays and EQN Sports Studio. Listen carries all five shows — the EQN Sports Desk, The Score, The Breakdown, The Money Barrel and The Ride — with every episode where you'd expect to find it instead of five feeds away.

Compete is the section we're proudest of, because it's the one that didn't exist anywhere before. Eight associations — the World Series of Team Roping, USTRC, the Patriot, Riata Buckle, Pink Buckle, Ruby Buckle, RSNC and Global Handicaps — each with their schedule, their results and their upcoming events on a single page, alongside a cross-association calendar of what's coming next. If you have ever tried to plan a fall run by opening eight browser tabs and a calculator, that page is for you.

Underneath it, the whole thing is new. EQN Sports runs on a content system built for this specific job rather than adapted to it: results tables that stay readable on a phone, event schedules pulled straight from the associations' own calendars, and search that actually finds the thing you searched for. It is faster than what it replaces, it works properly on the device most of you are holding at an arena, and it's designed so that adding the next outlet, the next association or the next show is a configuration rather than a rebuild.

This is a beginning, not a finished product, and we'd rather say so. More original reporting is coming, more of the back catalog is being brought across, and there are features already in the works that we'll roll out as they're ready.
