Tryan, Northcott Win Governor’s Cup in 4.4 for $34,000 a Man

Tyler Tryan and Nicky Northcott won the Governor’s Cup on Sunday with a 4.4-second run in the clean-slate final, worth $34,000 a man.

It was the fastest run of the four in the final, and one of only two teams that caught. Andrew Ward and Jake Long were 4.6 for second and $26,000 a man. Kaleb Driggers missed his head loop, and James Arviso and Levi Lord no-timed after Arviso lost his rope.

Tryan and Northcott won $40,266.70 a man in Sioux Falls. They placed fourth in both go-rounds and were 4.4 in the semifinals before winning the final. The Sioux Falls money moves both into No. 2 in the world standings: Tryan at $195,247.32 in the heading and Northcott at $196,598.32 in the heeling.

Ward and Long came to Sioux Falls on the edge of the top 15. After the second-place check, they’re at $147,515.85 each, No. 6 in the heading for Ward and No. 5 in the heeling for Long.

The NFR bubble after Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls settled the numbers for five men on the bubble. Cory Kidd V finished at $114,108.70 and holds the last heading spot, No. 15. He’s $3,892.71 ahead of Nelson Wyatt and $3,923.97 ahead of Ketch Kelton, and both rope at San Bernardino, Calif., on Sunday night. Wyatt and Jonathan Torres lead there at 4.4 seconds.

Dawson Graham is No. 13 in the heading at $118,044.59. Dillon Graham is No. 10 in the heeling at $125,339.59, and Douglas Rich is No. 9 at $126,483.48.

Carson Johnson finished at $111,320.04, No. 18 in the heeling. He needs $5,733.64 at the 377 Last Hoorah in Stephenville, Texas, on Sept. 30 to pass Wyatt Cox, who holds the last heeling spot at $117,053.67. Colter Todd is No. 16, $1,838.31 behind Cox, and ropes San Bernardino on Sunday night.
