What Happened September 7–13
Cutting: Cascades Futurity & Aged Event Wraps
Redmond, Oregon | September 1–13 | Deschutes County Fairgrounds
The Cascades Futurity and Aged Event crowned champions across every marquee Open division before wrapping its 13 day run at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds on September 13.
Morgan Cromer swept the Open ranks with two different horses, winning the Open Futurity (3-year-old) aboard Wild Metal (Aaron Wright) and the Open Derby (4-year-old) aboard Rollin With Starz (Reagan Glenn), with Cass Tatum and Keepin Tabs (VP Cutting Horses LLC) taking reserve in the Derby.
Josh Sleeman and Keep Tha Change (King Feed Inc) topped the Open Classic Challenge, the 5/6-year-old division, with Todd Adolf and Octavius (T&K Perf Horses) taking reserve.
Julie Clarke and her own Cyruss (Clarke Butte Ranch) doubled up across the amateur ranks, winning both the Non Pro Derby Final and the Amateur Derby Finals on the same horse. And in the Way Out West Cutting Series finale, Kat Play (Dacole Investment Co.) won both the $10,000 added WOW Open under Monty Buntin and the $10,000 added WOW Non Pro under Debbie Day.

This Week September 14–20
Reined Cow Horse: Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity
Reno, Nevada | September 11–20 | Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center
Justin Wright turned in the week’s most complete performance thus far at the historic Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity, sweeping the Open Derby Composite podium with three different horses.
Wright and RSR Closing Time (Ray Shell Ranch LLC) topped the Composite at 665.5 for $25,000, Skooby Do (Lesley T. Kearney) second at 664.5 for $13,480 and Stevies Blondie (Felizardo Elizondo) third at 660 for $8,500, a combined $46,980 across the three rides.
On the Non Pro side, Crue Dowers and Basic Baddie (Triple D Ranches LLC) topped the Non Pro Derby Composite at 655 for $5,000, and Allison S. Trimble Paparoa won the Non Pro Boxing Derby Composite aboard her own Classikat.

Ray Shell Ranch’s New Chapter: Justin Wright Rides RSR Closing Time to NSHA Derby Championship
Reining: High Roller Reining Classic
Las Vegas, Nevada | September 11–17 | South Point Equestrian Center
Krista Marshall and Marshall Equine LLC turned in the week’s busiest card at the High Roller Reining Classic thus far, winning the Level 4 Non Pro Derby and Futurity. Marshall and Gunnabea Chic Magnet topped the Derby at 146 for $3,716.24, then doubled up aboard Thee Batman to win the Non Pro Crown Jewel Futurity at 144.
The bigger-money Open divisions are still to come. The Open Derby runs September 16, and the Open Futurity closes out the show September 17.

Ranch Events, Reining: All American Quarter Horse Congress
Columbus, Ohio | September 26–October 24 | Ohio Expo Center
The Congress runs its full slate of AQHA, NRHA and NCHA-sanctioned classes over four weeks at the Ohio Expo Center, the largest single-breed horse show in the world. Congress covers far more than ranch and reining classes, but that’s the lane for this report, so stick to those two disciplines when covering results here.

Cutting: Brazos Bash
Weatherford, Texas | September 28–October 13 | Bosque Ranch Headquarters
Billed as the biggest NCHA-approved premier aged event in terms of added money, with 3-year-old, 4/5/6-year-old and 7 & Up Open, Non Pro and Amateur futurity/derby divisions across more than two weeks, put on by Bosque Ranch Events. The 2025 edition served as the qualifier for the 2026 Run For A Million Cutting Horse Challenge; this year’s edition likely does the same for 2027.

Reined Cow Horse: NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity
Fort Worth, Texas | October 9–24
The NRCHA’s marquee event for 3-year-olds, presented by Metallic Cat, has relocated to Fort Worth. Hundreds of entries and the Western Bloodstock sale are expected, along with the debut of Big Guns in Cowtown midway through the run.
