Hickory Holly Time Is Top Sire of the Old West Futurity (So Far)

Hickory Holly Time has eight individual horses in Saturday’s Old West Futurity team roping finals, more than any other stallion, and one of them, DT Hickorys Evita, carried the highest previous-round score of any horse in any final at 685.59.

Hickory Holly Time is owned by DT Horses’ Dean and Leslie Tuftin, and he was the top sire of all rope horses across all of 2025, too. The $5.1 million sire is by One Time Pepto out of Hickorys Holly Cee by Docs Hickory, and he earned $231,025 in a career that included the 2018 World’s Greatest Horseman title with Kelby Phillips.

No sire put more horses into the short rounds. Metallic Rebel is next at seven, Woody Be Tuff at six.

His eight stretch across the Pre-Futurity and Futurity, and they lean heavily to the heel side—seven of the eight are heel horses, with only Hollytime Boon (663.85, Mike Kunzler) carrying his name into a heading final. The top of the list is loaded: Dt Hickorys Evita at 685.59 and Dt Holly Time Ruby at 674.81 are both owned by Dt Horses, LLC and both in the Futurity Heeling, giving one program two of the highest-marked Hickory Holly Time head at the roping.
